With more than two decades of combined experience across interior design and construction, we bring a unique balance of creativity and real-world expertise to every project. We’re based in Indianapolis, but our projects take us well beyond Indiana.
Our approach is personal, collaborative and genuinely enjoyable. We take our work seriously and believe the best projects are built on trust and honesty.

Kate Sullivan
PRINCIPAL DESIGNER
A graduate of Purdue University’s Interior Design program, Kate brings more than a decade of experience designing spaces across the country. Her career has taken her from Chicago to San Diego and back to Indianapolis, giving her plenty of inspiration along the way.
She founded Matte.BLK as a creative extension of that experience and a way to bring a more personal approach to the homes she designs. Kate loves getting to know her clients and pulling together the details that make a space feel entirely their own.
Her style is intentional, refreshingly honest, and never one-size-fits all. She believes the best spaces are elevated and completely personal to the people who call them home.
Sierra Hughes
PROJECT DIRECTOR
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s Construction Management program, Sierra also brings more than a decade of experience across construction and development. Her career has taken her from Cincinnati to San Francisco and back to the Midwest, building a deep understanding of what it takes to bring a project from vision to reality.
At Matte.BLK, Sierra brings structure to the creative process and loves the behind-the-scenes details that keep a project moving. With experience in design coordination, budgeting, procurement and contractor relationships, she turns big ideas into thoughtful plans while making sure no detail gets lost along the way.
Her approach is organized and honest. She believes the best projects are built on clear communication, good people and a good sense of humor.
